  "abstract": "Inthepresentstudy,phenotypicandgenotypiccharacterizationof Pasteurella multocida(P. multocida)strainsfrom differentEgyptianlayersandbreederschickenflockswascarriedout.Organswerecollectedfrom55chickensflocks represented39layersand16broilersandlayersbreedersinEgyptduringtheperiod2016-2017.Sixbirdsweretakenfrom eachsuspectedflockwithatotalnumber330birdsthatrepresenting234and96freshlydeadlayersandbreederschickens, respectively.Suspectedorganscontaining P. multocidaweresubjectedforisolationandidentificationoftheorganism,as wellastestingofpathogenicityinmice.Moreover,genotypiccharacterizationof P. multocidaisolatewasdoneusing PolymeraseChainReaction(PCR).Capsularandsomatictypingwasdone.Thephenotypicandgenotypiccharacterization resultsrevealedthat6flockswerepositivefor P. multocidaoutof55ones(10.9%).Outof330deadchickens,36(10.9%) werepositivefor P. multocida.All P. multocidastrainswerepathogenicformice.Capsulartypingof P. multocidausing multiplexPCRshowedthatallstrainsweretypeA,whilesomatictypingrevealedpresenceoftypes1and3.Itcouldbe concludedthat P. multocidaiscirculatinginlayersandbreederchickenflocksinEgyptcreatingsevereeconomiclosses. multocida,PCRisused(Townsend et al.,1998,Sellyei et",
